Fresh over from Optik here lol . Just wondering how you get your UNsubbed channels to not show in the guide ?
Hello xjeepguy and welcome!
The Gateway system is able to hide channels that you are either not subscribed to or not interested in. You can find directions on how to hide these here Shaw Gateway - How to remove channels from the Guide
Ok thanks . That being said , If satellite and Telus can just show what your subbed to Shaw should be able to accomplish this . Does everyone in the house with their own stb have to do this ? I'm going to get an earful on this one if thats the case .
You would need to set it on each portal individually. On the bright side, you only need to do it the once.
With the Gateway, you have the option to hide channels you are subscribed to as well, so it is a little different. Our HD Guide digital box will automatically not display channels you are not subscribed to.

How is that different then our setup ? Is that the stand alone system ? I'm so out of the loop on this stuff lol . Was on satellite for so long then Optik for a year now this Gateway setup.
It is a completely different Guide system on our newer HD boxes (aside from the Gateway system), nothing like the guide menu on the Gateway. It can take a little time getting use to a different system, but you'll be use to it before you know it.
For sure , appreciate the help .
I would have settled for something as simple as unsubbed channels in their own color . Going to have to obtain a good printable list of what exactly we get ( we ordered the Popular package ) so I can do handouts to the kids so they can go through and edit . The only downloadable list I have found is the entire channel offerings here on PDF .
That's not a problem, we can forward you a listing of exactly which channels you are subscribed to. I've sent a DM to your Community Inbox so we can get the email address you would prefer to have it sent to.
Much appreciated , thanks
I would love to have that list (of all channels I am subscribed to) as well.
There should be an easy way for us to find that information ourselves.
Until then, please send?
Hi cuirbear. It would be nice if we had a way to incorporate that into https://myaccount.shaw.ca but for now, the list would need to be generated by a Shaw representative. I'll send you a private message if you could please check your inbox.
I asked for one and a Shaw rep emailed me one but it wasn't even close to what we sub to . It was just a Kelowna channel list . Anyways , 3 different tv's here and had to go through every damn channel and take it out of the guide manually , 3 times lol . If Satellite and Telus can do it in their systems and only show subbed content , it shouldn't be that difficult for Shaw .
When I first got my Gateway/Portals I went through the effort of hiding all of the channels I either wasn't subscribed to or wasn't interested in. That works for the most part but occasionally channels get added back and I have to remove them again. For example the other day (probably Nov 1) all of the Hollywood Suite channels appeared again and I have to go into the menu and hide them again. It's been other channels in the past.
Is there any rhyme or reason behind this? For example, if they change the channel icon or channel name in anyway, it "effectively" appears as a new entity and thus is displayed and requires re-hiding? That's what I'd guess is the cause - in which case would that be by design or a bug?
The Hollywood Suite channels were rebranded yesterday, so I have a suspicion that has something to do with it - changing the names must have caused them to show up again. I'm assuming when you hide the channels it's based on the name of the channel, so if it changes, it would no longer appear hidden. Do you remember any of the others this has happened with?
I think about a month ago the NFL Sunday Ticket channel or something like that re-appeared.
You're confirming my suspicion that it's related to a change in the channel name or icon. But I would consider that a bug. Re-branded or not, if I hide a channel I'd want it to stay that way. The one exception would be if a filter like "subscribed only" was added in a future software release and a channel temporarily became available on a free preview basis.
A&E channel 255 came back in all of my portals the other day. Did anything change with regards to A&E on 255?
There had been an issue with the Icon for the channel and it was not showing up properly. We had the issue escalated to our Video teams to have that resolved. We do apologize for any inconvenience it may have caused.

So is that not a bug then: anytime you change an icon for a channel it re-appears to customers who have hidden it - is that a "feature" or a "bug"?
Hi abdba ,
I would call it a bug that has been resolved.

[shaw]joel - please re-read the previous posts. You're talking about the issue with A&E being "resolved" as per Tony's post. That issue with A&E that they "resolved" is just illustrating the bug that I'm identifying. As for this morning that bug is not resolved in my portals.
The issue we previously had was the A&E icon did not show up properly, customers were not hiding the icon. If the icon is showing a TV and a remote instead of the channel's original icon, please let us know.
[shaw]tony, the bug I'm describing in my previous posts is not related to A&E specifically. Notice that my earlier posts discuss Hollywood Suite, not A&E. Both are just examples to answer [shaw]tamara's question (in this thread). So take A&E out of the discussion and look back at the earlier posts - there's still a bug that needs to be captured and addressed here.
Sorry for the confusion. Are you setting the channels you subscribe to under your favorites list or specifically hide them? They should not be coming back up unless its a free preview.
This is the Gateway shaw-tony . When we remove channels, our lists stay the same until Shaw adds a new channel to the Shaw channel lineup, whether we are subscribed or not, that we then have to remove manually if we don't subscribe. Free previews do not show up automatically on the Gateway. Gateway users have to keep on top of things and check the website and manually add the channels if we want to see the free previews.
The bug abdba is describing is that recently the Hollywood Suite channels reappeared on our lists because they were rebranded and there was a logo/icon glitch that made A&E reappear. Again, whether we are subscribed to them or not. I'm guessing that the Gateway is treating these changes/glitches the way it would for a new channel, adding them to our channel list. The bug is that each time these changes/glitches occur we have to remove them again from our lists if we don't subscribe.
"NFL Redzone HD" is another one that re-appeared 3 or 4 weeks ago. So the bug is that whenever Shaw makes a change to channels, they appear as new in our channel list even if we've removed them from the channel list. And to be clear, it's nothing to do with "subscribed" or "not-subscribed". It's whether we've kept them in the channel list or removed them from the channel list.
I will notify our team with your feedback on this. I can see how its frustrating for sure.
Is there a bug registered for this? It is extremely annoying as the channels are constantly reappearing. For example, lately there's been changes to the Disney related channels in the high 100's. Super frustrating having to re-adjust all three portals every few days.
