Trying to set up a Series recording on Space HD which is my channel 271 and notice it is not available after Sunday. Where is it going?
Space, to my knowledge, is not being discontinued. I also checked on our guide in the office and do see scheduled programming on the channel past Sunday, the 27th.
Try and cycle the box by removing the coax cable (screwy black or white TV cable) and power cable for 2 minutes, reconnecting the coax first and power after. The guide will take a while to load again but check Space and see if it appears after Sunday. Do you also have more than 1 digital box? If so can you check the other one and see if you see the same thing?
Let us know.
Thanks when I get home from work I will try that and let you know.
I checked the Guide for my TV and it too does not show any Space programming beyond Saturday. All it says is To Be Announced.
Hello dxer and bookie
I just checked on our test stations, and can confirm that we're seeing the same thing if you have a Classic Guide cable box. On the HD Guide boxes (HD Guide - Guide view information ) and our Gateway unit (Shaw Gateway PVR Recording - Overview) the channel listings are not missing. We believe there was a last minute program change on the Space channel, and the Classic guide boxes have not updated yet with newest information; the HD Guide and Gateway system pulls updates live from our server, thus it shows the updated information. It may take some time for the Classic guide boxes to load; however, there may be a chance that the update will not reach these boxes. You can view what is upcoming on this channel through a popular TV listings site called Zap2it. We apologize for any inconveniences this may have caused!
Ken, I have a DCX 3400. It is an HD PVR. How do I get the HD Guide? All I have is the much poorer Classic Guide, which is squashed when engaged from HD and oversized (going beyond the screen) when engaged in SD. I used to have a Pace, which allowed changes of display but I (and one of your techs) can't do it, thus leaving me with this awkward set of Guide displays.
When on Standard definition channels, the image is "squashed" (as per your definition) due to the original content being in that standard form. You can change the stretch of the image to normal view when you're going back to SD. This can be done either on the Shaw remote (zoom/aspect button) or can be done through your TV settings. For more information on pricing of our current cable boxes, have a look at this page here: Theme Packages, Themes| Theme Packs | Channel Packages | Shaw
Actually it is squashed in HD. It is oversized in SD (which is set to zoom, as the picture is tiny in native, due to most shows in letterbox or HD format, even when not carried in HD). As for using the zoom/aspect button, I don't have one on my remote (2025B1).
Check to see that Zoom isn't enabled on the TV and zoomed in. If it is the guide may not fit fully on the screen, so you would need to zoom back out. This you would find on the TV remote, not your Shaw remote as it is a function of the TV. Also you can try changing the Input the box is connected to, for example HDMI1 to HDMI2 and see if the same issue is present.
I found an older Shaw remote, with HD/zoom. While I know it used to work in the past, all it does now is change the HD channels, from Normal to Expand to Zoom. It has no effect on the SD channels, just saying Normal on the screen, on whatever setting is in place from the TV's own remote. While the TV's Sony remote can zoom in SD, the Shaw remote does nothing. It is the SD channels that look better full screen (although the pixel strength is degraded). Thus the only control on screen size is via the Sony remote. Any further suggestions?
Hi there dxer,
In the Users Settings menu of the Pace unit, you can actually change your resolution settings so that it properly stretches the picture from 4:3 to 16:9 without it cutting off anything. Please see our instructions on How to change the resolution settings on your Digital Box for more information on how to adjust this.
Hi Brayden. I don't have a Pace anymore. Now it is a Motorola DCX3400. And there appears to be no way to change the resolution settings from either of the two Shaw remotes that I have. I did use to do it on the Pace, which was great. Unfortunately the Pace died.
You should be able to adjust this on the Motorola DCX3400 as well. What you'll want to do is power off the unit, wait 1 second, then press the MENU or SETTINGS button on the remote. You should get a white screen that pops up labeled "User Settings" and you can adjust the 4:3 override to 16:9 resolution here.
Thanks Brayden. Your directions help - I didn't know that you could still get to the User Settings. I can get the stretched Guide now. But sorting out the rest of the settings is still uncertain. If I could get it to Zoom on the Shaw remote then have it stay there, that would be perfect (except for the SD picture quality, that would work well. Right now every time I change channel, it reverts to a stretch mode for the 16X9 signals and to full screen (stretch) for the 4:3 signals. I'll keep working on it.
