I just noticed that webmail.shaw.ca moved an email from my inbox to trash all by itself. It turns out that the email that I deleted from my ipad was also deleted from webmail without me doing anything. How can I stop this from happening?
It sounds like your iPad is set up to delete things from our server as well. This is likely to do with how you set up the email on your iPad. If you used the ActiveSync settings that will probably be the issue. ActiveSync means your iPad is live connecting to our server so any changes you make there will happen on webmail.shaw.ca.
If you use POP settings instead that would stop the issue. You can find those here! How to setup email on an iPhone/iPad on iOS 11
Jason - it sounds like you really know your stuff.
My experience with customer support over the phone & chat has been very difficult over the last number of months. I've just joined this community hoping for answers that fellow users might offer. But I'm pleasantly surprised that Shaw has real experts (you Jason) on this forum.
All my problems started when I got an iphone last Aug & tried to add email onto the phone. My email on the ipad & pc both worked properly at the time. When your techs got thru with me, all my emails were lost & unrecoverable, my ipad & iphone could receive but couldn't send, etc. etc. It was a nightmare.
I use to have POP settings before the iphone & the last tech changed me over to exchange.
Can I turn off ActiveSync?
You actually can't its a specific way of setting up the email on the device. I wish there was an easier way but it would need to get set up again with the other settings! Once that is done you should be good to go for good tho!
If I change from ActiveSync/Exchange to POP, do I have to create a new account & lose all my emails? If so, is there a way to backup under ActiveSync Exchange & restore under POP & not lose anything?
You would need to set up the account again on the phone. With ActiveSync the mails are not saved directly on your phone so removing it should not cause any problems with the emails on webmail.shaw.ca.
Once you set up POP it should download all the emails directly to your phone and you can manage them separately from there!
