anybody know what I do To expand the memory of my hdpvr?
I'll assume you mean hard drive space? Memory is a fixed thing with these boxes and unchangeable but HDD space is another story.
What PVR do you have?
What you would need is an external HDD enclosure, something like the Nexstar CX which is what I used with my Gateway system. Then an HDD to put in it. I used a 3TB HDD with the above mentioned enclosure with little issue. The enclosure worked with my older Shaw Pace box as well, but with a 1TB HDD at that time.
Not all enclosures work with all boxes but I've seen few issues with the Nextstar CX so it's what I recommend.
It depends on what PVR you have.
I have the Shaw Gateway system and a 4TB esata external hard drive connected (like the ones for sale on ebay). This 4TB drive was advertised as a "Video recording drive" that can be used for DVRs (PVRS), tivos or surveillance systems. It also uses the same eSata and HDD enclosure that shaw used on their PVR expanders when they sold them.
Its Awesome, gets me 540+ hours of HD recording and I've never had a issue with it. With 5 people using this PVR, AND 6 TUNNERS on the gateway, its amazing how much stuff can be and is, recorded at once. If you have the regular single TV PVR, it will only handle a 1TB or maybe a 2TB hard drive though.
Shaw stopped selling their expander hard drives though and I've tried enquiring through staples or best buy, they will usually suggest a USB3 external hard drive or something that wont work unfortunately. When looking to buy one, make sure it has the eSata connection and its own power. Look for Video recording hard drives too.
