Is the Shaw XG1 500GB PVR the latest ?
Does it only work with Gateway, which I don't have. I want a replacement for my DCX 3400 and I see by the specs it can record up to 6HD shows at one time. Saw the ad in BB.
The XG1 is a standalone unit but it also works with the Gateway Portals we have. So you can use it on its own or you can connect it to up to 5 additional portals. Even while in standalone mode though, you can use all 6 tuners.
Hope this answers your question!
Was excited to see a new pvr being released with more tuners but VERY disappointed to see that the memory had not been increased. The 3510 has 500GB and it is too small for HD programming. I am constantly having to delete unwatched recordings. Why didn't they increase the memory when they are increasing the number of tuners? There seem to be many problems caused by the use of expanders.
It appears to be a good PVR with one Buyer caveat. He/She does not like the "Guide". I have no problem with my Guide on the DCX 3400. Is the "new" Guide different? Same complaint as above with small HD. Would be nice to be able to connect 2-3TB External HD and, keep recordings a la Xbox One, and /or change them like PS4. If those sophisticated machines can incorporate these external HD why cannot a PVR? My PVR Extender never worked, without locking up, on my DCX 3400.
Sounds like it was possibly a bad or incompatible expander. I've been using one with my Pace for a few years and don't have to many issues with it.
Still interested in purchasing. Can you still record 6 channels if used for 1TV only? Does Shaw carry Warranty if purchased at BB.
That is correct, you can still record up to 6 channels at once on the one TV. Having extra ports just allows you to watch and access recordings on additional TV's, it doesn't change the main function of the Gateway.
As for warranty, if you purchase the Shaw Gateway through an authorized reseller, we will honor the warranty.
