Does Shaw offer any kind of service for installing ethernet cable to a room, or do we have to figure that out ourselves?
Our responsibility is to ensure that our modem is installed and configured for internet access; we are not responsible for snaking ethernet cabling behind walls/drywall patching etc., nor setup/configure any smart panels/switches for in-room ethernet connections. You will need to contact a contractor for estimates on the work that you require.
I believe so.
Although i would recommend running fiber optic communications cable yourself like i have done myself, while shaw i think only does coaxial and ethernet.
We would install an outlet to your room and then run coaxial to your modem. From your modem, it would then be coaxial or wifi to your computer.
We do have fibre in some buildings but that means a complete overhaul of the building and is a very big undertaking that takes discussion between us and the building owners.
So you guys do actually provide fiber. How much would it cost for my house to be internally wired with fiber?
As we're still in the beginning stage of installing fibre, we are currently installing it in newer multi-unit buildings, ones with a hundred suites or so. Installing it in single homes would be extremely expensive! But it's an option in the future.

Sorry, but it is that ethernet to your computer?
For me currently, it’s coaxial to the modem on my main floor.
I then have an ethernet cable through the vent to an upstairs computer in an amateurish manner.
I am moving to a different house, and the devices there just use Wi-Fi.
I however want a wire to my room from the modem and router like my current setup.
I’m not sure about the possible difficulty of cabling in the new house.
Can Shaw do all those ethernet installation things that I’m seeing online?: Fish tape, drywall patching, stud finding, drilling, and all that stuff? (I avoided them in my current setup).
Or does Shaw just get the connections to the modem going, and any splitting and cabling to other areas of the house are the resident’s responsibility.
