I currently have a Cisco DPC3825 and I am considering outright buying the "advanced wifi modem ( Hitron CGNM-2250 )" Is it worth the 100$? Will my wifi speeds increase? Is there any reason I should not upgrade? Thanks for your time!
Thank you for reaching out to us here. We have some information specs here on the Hitron Modem: Hardware Information - Hitron CGNM-2250 DOCSIS 3.0 Wi-Fi Modem
I personally have this device and the new dual band 2.4 and 5 ghz channels are great to separate some of the connections in my house. This unit is wireless N and AC compatible which on new devices, delivers exceptionally fast speeds. The range on this unit is also increase due to the 3x3 antennae configuration from the Cisco DPC3825. Let us know if you are interested and we can give you some more information.

unless you are not getting full speed on your current plan, i strongly urge against getting the hitron as it is much less stable and still has some issues
if you are on grandfathered 100, 50, or the new 30 or 60 plans i dont recomend taking the advanced wifi modem unless you are not getting full speed
if you want better wifi i suggest going out and buying netgear R7000
I have a Hitron at home, and I think it's worthwhile. You get to bond 24 downstream channels vs 8 on the DPC3825, and it has 802.11ac Wifi with 3x3 MIMO (pretty much the industry standard right now), so it's going to be a fair amount faster than the DPC3825 (N150). Especially if you have devices with 5GHz 802.11n or 802.11ac radios.
The Netgear R7000 is a great router, but it currently retails for $199.99 or higher.
Yeah i figured the same thing. Since i was on shaws maximum speed package I have gotten the newer advanced modem hooked up free of charge. I must say i am very happy i did
Speed test on the Cisco DPC3825 my ipad air 2

Literally 10x faster, and it was a free upgrade.
So far its been stable, so i do recommend it but, I will report back to this thread in a few months after i can give a fair review of the new "advanced wifi modem" of shaws. These results are pretty amazing though, as of this moment i am super happy i upgraded..
Wooo! That's pretty good.
