Purchased a Shaw XG1( only the PVR) a couple of days ago from BB and am looking forward to installing. I hear there could be problems with the installation. Has anyone done it by themselves and how to go about the install? Thanks.
From my experience, most failed self installs occur on outlets that are not active or a moca filter is missing if trying to add portals with the Gateway. Both cases a tech would need to be out.
Apart from that with active outlets having a solid signal you should hopefully have no troubles activating the system. If you do, please let us know and we can certainly investigate.
Also welcome other community members to share their experience too of course.
Thanks for reply. My outlet is active since I have the DCX3400 connected. Do I still have to phone Shaw for Acivation?
I guess I need the S/N and can I still use the DCX3400 in same outlet using a splitter?
Hey lq48 !
Yep you would have to reach out to us to add the Gateway on your account and we can walk through activating it. In fact, I can message you directly and go from there. Please check your inbox.
As for your other question, you could use the DCX3400 in theory in the same outlet using a splitter, however that may weaken the signal to a point where you may see degraded quality. Worth a shot but some risks there associated.
Does Shaw now allow self-installs of the Gateway products?
You can do a self-install of the new XG1 Gateway PVR as that doesn't require a MoCA filter. It is the Gateway with portals that would require a Shaw installer to visit as that would require filters.
