What has changed in the last 72 hours that would prevent tv from working on my digital tv's not equipped with shaw boxes, and what can be done to correct this?
Over the last few years, we have been changing our network over to all digital, which means each TV would require a digital box for TV. This frees up a lot of bandwidth which allows us to carry many more channels. If your analog TV's have stopped receiving signal, it is very likely that your area has recently been upgraded. You will need digital boxes for those TV's.
Thanks Don for your note. As clarification the two TV's/monitors are equipped with digital tuners not analog and this issue is not as a result of upgrading to a digital signal. They are primarily used as computer monitors in my home office/desk where a cable/digital box(s) is not practical. They had received roughly 18 TV channels and numerous radio channels without a digital box. As of this morning we still have numerous radio channels but the TV channels have been reduced to 5 without functionality; they just show the vertical bars typically reserved for channels that are off the air. There has been a change in the scrambling of the digital channels made by Shaw which is leaving me in an unacceptable position.
If we recently upgraded your neighbourhood from analog to digital, you will need a digital box on each TV. This will provide you with many more channels and will increase the quality of each channel.
I will send you a private message if you could please check your inbox . Once I check your address, I can determine if we have upgraded your area.
So to watch basic cable now from shaw, we have to buy a digital box?
Yes, once the digital network upgrade is completed in your area, you will need a cable box to receive channels. Usually about 4 to 6 weeks before an area is upgraded we send out a letter to let customers know and to go over options for adding equipment if needed. You can also find more information about our cable boxes by visiting Digital Cable Box, HD PVR, And More | Equipment | TV | Shaw
