Why does my arris gateway PVR drop video every 30 seconds when connected to HDMI switch iogear. Other sources work fine ie xbox, apple tv or macmini. Anyone have any similar issues?
Hey skrz, sorry we missed your message.
I run my devices through an HDMI switch too. Great devices if you have more equipment than your TV has ports!
If you switch which port your Gateway PVR is connected to on the switch, does it happen on every port? And is it possible to bypass the switch and put the Gateway direct to the TV or are you using the switch to convert from HDMI to component?
I have tried using all 3 ports on the switch and get the same result. I can bypass the switch and go direct to the TV and that fixes the problem but then I don't have enough HDMI ports direct from TV for all my sources. FYI I'm actually using one of the gateway portals and not the gateway directly. I have a feeling the portal and /or gateway has a compatibility problem with HDMI switches, I actually tried a different higher end brand switch which didn't fix the problem either...
Thanks for doing that testing. I haven't heard of any compatibility issues with our portals and HDMI switches but it is certainly possible. One last request for you: Could you have it so that the portal is the only hardware connected through the switch and then see if it still happens?
I'm also going to ask one of our Gateway experts and see if they've heard of this before.
This isn't a known issue but there is a possibility that there is some incompatibility with portals and switches. Alas, it would be an unsupported issue and we would recommend bypassing the switch and going direct to the TV.
Have you tried with the portal as the only hardware on the switch to see if it still happens?
!How many devices do you have in your HDMI chain? The portals will only allow 2.
