On our TV that is connected to a Shaw Digital box, there is NO SOUND - but there is picture. We have sound on our other TVs (connected to the Gateway
PVR) What's the problem
If you have a cable box with the HD guide press the green D button once to to turn it on again to turn it off hope that helps
That's no good! It sounds* like you might just need to check to make sure SAP isn't enabled on your tv. We have more information on how to do that here: Gateway - secondary audio streams Let us know if that doesn't fix it. Thanks!
* pardon the bad joke, I could not resist.
LOL - well, at least I did get it (the joke). This TV is not connected to the Gateway system - it's just on a digital cable box.
When I checked the site you mentioned - it refers to the Gateway system. :-(
Ahhh sorry! I misread that. If it's not a Gateway box, then these steps should help instead: How to troubleshoot no sound / audio with a Digital Box
I will look at it - but the sound is off on that one channel only! Not all the channels. . . . . . . ??
OOps - I just realized I forgot to say it's just on Channel 8 - Global. :-)
Global seems to be working here, but we're in the office in Vancouver so it could just be a problem in your area. However, it doesn't look like we have had any other reports. I'd check to make sure SAP is not enabled, and if that doesn't fix it, unplugging the box for 30 seconds might do the trick.
The strange thing is that Global (ch 8 in Penticton) - is fine on the TVs connected with Gateway but on the TV not using Gateway - has a Shaw digital cable box (Motorola) - there's picture but no sound. Weird? I was wondering if rebooting the cable box might help?
If it's working fine on the Gateway boxes but not the regular digital box then we can rule out an issue with the feed. Rebooting the box may help and it's the easiest troubleshooting step, so try unplugging it for about 30 seconds and then plug it back in. If it still doesn't have sound after that, please let us know.
OK so I rebooted the cable box and STILL there's picture but NO SOUND on our Channel 8 - Global. Hmmmmmm.
Thanks! Did you check to make sure SAP is disabled?
To disable SAP on your Digital Box:
Hmmm - I don't see exactly what you say to dol.
well when I go to:
Settings = Guide
Audio >>>>>> Digital Audio Encoding & Output Range >> at the bottom = Reset to Default
Reset to Default
Is it a standard digital box or one of the HD Guide cable boxes?
It's an HD Guide Digital
Thanks! In that case, scroll over to DVS when you're in the audio settings and toggle it on and then back off. Your TV might also have SAP settings so if you have the remote for the TV, try going into the audio settings in the TV menu - this varies by brand so unfortunately I don't have the exact steps. You'll be looking for an option that lets you select Stereo, Mono, SAP and MTS. Make sure it's set to either Mono or Stereo. I'd also recommend checking your coax cable connections as well as any other audio cables that you might be using to make sure they aren't loose.
LOL I had given up and didn't look for more replies on this! Sean@38 - THANK YOU so much!! You were exactly right! I did as you said and "Whoot whoot!!" that TV now has sound on that Channel!!
