I noticed that there was a ruling by the CRTC starting in 2016 allowing for changes in the way we purchase our cable. When will Shaw be updating the website to show the new ruling and prices?
The CRTC ruling doesn't start until the end of March.
Cable providers are free to implement the changes at any time, March is just the deadline date. One of the Shaw reps mentioned it would be done well before the deadline, but we are getting closer...
Have any others implemented it yet? I doubt it. They will all wait to the last second, just like paying taxes, nobody does it before they have to.
Thanks for that information. I am looking forward to having the channels we want not having some of the garbage out there and be paying for it (Kardashian channel).
In theory it sounds good, but I can almost guarantee that it will not save money for anyone. The channels that people do not want cost Shaw nothing, so those are free anyway. They will simply raise the pricing on what you want so the overall cost ends up being the same.
That's probably the unfortunate reality.. you might get the Best of HD for $9 a month, or just AMC HD channel by itself for $10 a month "oh may as well stay where I am". I think Shaw really missed a great opportunity to offer this kind of thing years ago. They had a chance to be really proactive and offer this kind of thing to stop the cable cutters and lower the outflow of clients - but it's almost too late now as cable is getting cut in droves now.
I agree with frankrizzo. I have been with Shaw since the beginning and they had many chances to be proactive. I know many homes that are dropping their TV service completely and going strictly by internet and companies like Netflix, etc. Even as it stands, Shaw's PPV is way too expensive when you can get Netflix for $8.00 a month, and most of the HD movies on Shaw are at least half that cost. Oh well, nothing we can do about but deal with the changes the best way for each of us.
I believe that you are referring to "Skinny basic" And other changes to the way TV must be delivered.. Timing for those changes are covered on this article $25 basic cable package must be in place by March 1 - Business - CBC News
As for the pick and pay system , that has to be in place by Dec 1 of this year .. We're just as excited about the changes as you are , exciting things happening in the industry for sure
Thanks for the link. It makes way more sense after reading that. Hopefully, Shaw will have everything ready to go my March 1 instead of waiting for the Dec 1 deadline. It was interesting to see that some of the "smaller" channels are worried about inclusion. Well.....if they are worth it to the public then they will survive...if not; so be it.
Yes, so all they need to include for the $25 is the local channels, that are free over the air anyway and cost Shaw nothing. They will just continue to sell individual channels at $3 and small groups for $10. You would need to be pretty picky to save any money in the end. I really hope it is better, but I will not hold my breath.
Skinny basic is all that is required to be in place by March first as per the CRTC .. The pick and pay option doesn't have to be out till Dec. At this time we don't have any information that we can pass on however, stay tuned to our website closer to those dates and as soon as we have info to pass on we will
Perhaps you guys could fix the existing channel lists first. This would make it easier to compare with the upcoming changes.
I am also wanting to pick & choose my channels. Shaw's ridiculous TV charges are beyond logic. I shouldn't have to pay fees for something that does not interest me. They are taking advantage of consumers and they don't care about the other demographics of hard working individuals.@cuncl
I was looking yesterday.
It is on shaw.ca/television but the limited is listed after all other plans.
Limited tv is not going to be offered in my area. Westlock AB. Not impressed. because they cannot offer it due to old network. so I turfed their $43 digital basic have no tv service and kept the Internet. Internet 30 is the best I can get. Funny how they cannot do upgrades but are able to purchase wind mobile.
