The wifi disconnects every 15-20 minutes and then takes 3-5 minutes to come back. Tested on TV, laptop, tablet. I have done troubleshooting on my laptop to no avail. It IS the modem. Anyone have a solution?
When the wifi drops out, do you notice if the modem itself goes offline and start cycling through its lights?
If the modem is staying online but it's just the wifi dropping, check around the modem for anything that could be interfering. We have some great steps at WiFi Interference that should prove useful.
I'd also recommend logging into the modem and trying wifi channels 1, 6 or 11. Steps on changing the wifi channel are at How to Change the Wireless Channel on Your Shaw Wireless Modem.
Definitely let us know if you're still having issues after that.
Ok... now your support site is acting weird. I switched to channel 8 which said Interference level: Acceptable. It then disconnected after 20 minutes. I am now on channel 9 which says acceptable but it will quit in another 20 minutes or so and I'll have to switch it again when it goes down. I can't look at the modem right now. I'll see if I can take a look at in in the near future but so far the channel thing isn't working.
Hey seeingred thanks for the update on that. Sorry to see changing your channels isn't doing the trick! Definitely would recommend trying every channel and testing, but if you're just not getting anywhere with that, then the next step would be, when you can take a look at the modem, to run a factory reset on it by sticking a pin in the reset hole for at least 20 seconds, which will restore it to factory defaults (the network name and password are found on a sticker on the device).
Hope this helps get it working right!
Let us know
The modem did not turn off when it did its disconnect again. I have reset it and am waiting to see if it stops again.
Sounds good, keep us posted. We'll ensure this get's figured out!
Seems to be fairly stable. I may just reset it every day then.
modem is disconnecting every 20 minutes. I tried the reset button, unplug, then hold reset button. I cannot access the cisco modem, its just not allowing me too. West Lethbridge is having issues. I think that the modem just needs upgrading. Its very frustrating paying for a service you are not getting.
Definitely understand the frustration here. We can take a look to see if anything can be done to improve your connection. Are you using a splitter or do you have the modem connected directly to the outlet?
