when I try to send pictures from google drive windows live mail comes up even though I want to use gmail! can you help me sort this out? thanks Bob
We'll see what we can do to help solve this with you. Just a few questions first. Which version of Windows are you using? And which browser (Chrome, Firefox, etc) are you using when browsing your Google Drive?
EDIT: I have a recommendation that may be easier. When in Gmail composing a new message, at the bottom one of the formatting options is to "Insert files using Drive". This would access your Google Drive contents, and make it easy to attach anything to an email from your Google Drive. Because Gmail isn't a standard mail client, it can be very difficult to tell Windows that it is your default email client/service. Hope this helps.
thanks for that, but I have problems when I scan a document and try to email it! Windows live pops up and I dont intend using that but gmail! how can I cure that problem? I use an MX 72 canon printer! please can you walk me through setting it up properly? thank you Bob
From the sounds of that, it looks to be a setting you have on your current MX 72 Canon printer to have it go to email when you scan a document. The manual should give you some better steps on how to resolve this. Is there some software that you have that came with the printer? It should have a settings configuring for you to change it so it does nothing when you scan or it comes up as a saved file. You may be able to also look into changing the setting on the printer if it has the ability to.

is there anyway you can walk me through it? On my old Lexmark I used to be able to just scan a page and it would have an email sign right there! I do have a disc what came with printer but have problems knowing which buttons to push to get where I want to be! thanks for your help with this Bob
Hey bobmar38, to me it sounds like Windows Live Mail is the default email client on your system. Unfortunately, there is not an out of the box way to set Gmail as a default system wide email client in Windows that I have ever found.
There are a couple software options available that when you try to send a file via email directly through Windows will upload that file into a new draft email, and then launch your web browser to login to Gmail and open up that draft for you to edit / send off.
I've used this personally, Tvhgooglemapi and when I was looking for the solution to this myself, Affixa Desktop was mentioned by some other folks. Affixa looks like it is free for personal use, and Tvhgooglemapi is free and open source.
Hopefully that works for as well!
This would not be possible for us to do as this is outside of our scope of support. We can provide general feedback/knowledge but exact steps is not something that we would be able to help give. There may be a setting that you need to adjust in order to change this function. This may be located either on the printer itself or during the scan/print process a pop up may appear. You would have the best support with Canon as they are the manufacturers of the product being used and will have better knowledge of their products.
