I am having trouble with skype freezing.I get a message that I have a bad connection.I tried the speed test results were EXCELLENT.
Hey there kentstone
Excellent speed test results - that's always good to hear. Do you have any connection problems otherwise, or only when using Skype?
Connection issues like that on Skype really go both ways. The problem you're seeing could be due to a connection issue at the other person's end. I wonder how their speed test results are
The connection on the other end seems fine.I do have to reset my router on occasion.
Ah, I see. Can you describe what sort of connection you're using - wireless or wired?
I'd definitely give it a try on a wired connection if you're able to do so. It would be really helpful to know if the same problems are happening when plugged in versus wireless.
Hi uglykids, I replied to you in your thread.
uglykids posted here with regard to a slightly unrelated topic, so we were replying to that in order to look into it. I'm still keeping an eye on this thread and will continue to help.
Did you try Colin's advice yet? If you connect this computer directly to a computer and then run Skype, see if you still have the freezing issue.
Also, at the same time that Skype freezes, are you able to bring up webpages?
No,I haven't had an opportunity to try this yet. What makes you think that will help?
It is to rule out pieces of hardware, router causing the issue, wireless causing the issue, just go through things a piece at a time, looking for what helps and doesn't.
It won't make things worse.
If your speeds are good, it might be an issue with the wifi connection or with the firewall. By connecting direct to the wifi modem or router, we will be able to remove one of those possibilities.
This may be a dumb question,If my speeds are good with wifi wouldn't it mean that my router/wifi is good?
Speeds aren't everything with dealing with real-time traffic.
Jitter is a big concern, packetloss (small amount of packet loss will still show good speeds).
Basic answer no.
It's possible that there is a setting in your router that is interfering with Skype. As Kevin and I have mentioned, testing with the computer direct to the modem is a way to test that.
Next time I am on skype I will give it a shot and let you know what happens.
