I would like to know why if I'm subscribed to HBO and then when I go to watch a show that is on HBO for example "Silicon Valley" why they are missing the first 3 episodes of season 3??
You scared me for a moment as I haven't had a chance to catch up on this season yet! It does look like those episodes are still available on Silicon Valley (2014) - Tv - Shaw On Demand, so I'll pass this along to our Shaw FreeRange TV team. We are collecting examples of some shows/episodes that are not transferring over correctly. With luck we'll have those available through the app soon.
Ha! Awesome! Thanks so much for the help and quick response!
Can I get the old app back ? The new one is missing so much content. The first episodes of the latest season of Game of Thrones is missing, along with Silicon Valley. Ray Donovan is gone, The Affair is gone. Major downgrade in content on the Freerange app. Please help !!
Hi valgus. I checked my own Freerange app and all episodes of Game of Thrones are there, including all for this season. It's possible that they were missing when last you checked.
For Silicon Valley, episodes 1-3 are missing. Let's give that a few days too and we'll see if those come back.
I know that Ray Donovan hasn't been available on VOD. I'm not sure about The Affair. Best way to check is by going to https://vod.shaw.ca as that'll give you a list of everything available.
i just checked and on season 6, the first available episode for GOT is episode 4. What am I doing wrong ?
Hmm, mine's showing that episodes 1-3 aren't there any more. They might have been removed and it took my app a bit longer to refresh the list. Oftentimes episodes will be removed on request of the content holder but it can be hard to tell. Best to check again in a few days to see if they were only taken down temporarily. If they're not back up, let us know and we can check for you.
Your responses are a little confusing. At first you say you just checked and they are there but now they have disappeared ? Is this how it's going to be with Freerange ? On for a few minutes and then poof ? Can you please just bring back the old app ?
Sorry for any confusion. I meant that my Freerange app did show them at first but it might not have refreshed properly. Or perhaps I just read it wrong. Now it's showing the same as yours or I'm just reading it correctly again. The app is still the same, it's just the content that changes over time. That can depend on our arrangements with the owners of the content. But let's give it a few days and we'll see if those GoT and Silicon Valley shows were just temporarily removed.
to add some clarity, the store catalog on freerange is spread out on multiple caches. Sometimes if an asset has expired (studio driven), or is requested to be removed due to licensing, it can take time to propagate to all caches. This is why there sometimes is mixed results where a person could hit one cache web service and see episodes, while another person does not see it. Similarly the reverse is true for content coming into the store. Eventually after some time passes all caches get updated and the end result should be the same.
as a FYI, going back to the previous app version or using the new one will not change the experience, as mostly all data comes from the xfinity cloud service into the app.
one way to determine if there is an issue going on with freerange and you are a shaw cable subscriber, is to compare the catalog with the set top box. If the asset shows up on the set top box but not on freerange, let us know here we try and validate as much as possible that everything is working as expected, but sometimes our customers find issues first. If you do run into those type of problems, and are willing to check the set top box as well, that is very helpful when trying to resolve Issues like that. If the content is not available on both platforms, the asset has expired or has been requested to be removed. That is expected behaviour in these cases.
9 times out of 10 the content will be removed from both catalogs, but sometimes there may be unexpected behaviours that can happen, which can be escalated to be resolved.
