How come all call logs are freely available to mobile phone customers but not on a landline?

For time billing reasons I was looking for an easier way to keep track of call durations, and knowing that I always get a full call log on my mobile phone bill I foolishly thought it would be just as easy on a landline - just to find commets about how you need a court order to get incoming call logs??? That's ridiculous...

Aside from that: I'm using a phone system in my business on which we have caller ID (sort of) but only as long as the call is not answered yet, and the call duration disappears immediately upon hanging up the call. Any ideas for additional equipment or software or phone service add-ons to keep track of phone calls? I'm not talking about recording phone calls, not even the phone number of the caller, just on which of my lines the call came in and the duration of it.
