Can a security camera be hooked up to my Shaw receiver and can I record on to the receiver ?
I have an easy answer and a more complicated answer.
Easy answer is that you can't connect a security system directly to the receiver itself. The receiver only gets its feed from coaxial cable and that is purely a channel signal.
More complicated answer is that you can if the security system is converted to a channel and then feed into the Shaw signal. Many apartments and condos' security cameras (next to the intercoms) are set up in that way. Best to check the documents that came with your security system and see if that's possible.
Another option is the good old VCR or recordable DVD setup. Security system would be connected by coaxial cable to that device which would in turn be connected directly to the TV.
The modern approach is, instead of going through TV, to go through internet. If your security system is IP-based, you could set it up to stream over the internet and then be recordable on the computer. That might be a good option for you to consider too.
