Have to restart modem quite often

I was wondering if anyone else has had the issue of having to restart their modem on the average of once a week because of internet outages/slow downs.  At times my internet will drop to pitiful speeds ( 1.5mpbs down vs my Broadband or even now 150 service ).  When this happens I can restart the modem and all returns to normal.  Also from time to time the internet will just die...gone....nothing at all, until I restart the modem and then poof ! all is well again.  This has been happening with the last modem ( Cisco I believe ) and the new Hitron modem that runs the 150 service.  Normally it wouldn't be a big deal but it is happening every week or two and so it gets irritating to say the least.    I always assumed that it was a hardware problem with the last modem but obviously that is not the case. 


I should point out that both modems run in Bridged mode and restarting the router changes nothing if I don't restart the modem so it isn't a router issue.
