Why do I need to pay more just to get my router in bridge mode? I called in one night for tech support and I am told in order for SHAW to bridge my modem is for me to change internet plan because mine is "grandfathered". It's basically black mail!

all i want is not to use this outdated modem but since its a gateway I can't just buy a better performing router and use it with out the 3825 in bridge mode can someone help me.
