Have new computer with Windows Defender(windows 10) is protection adequate or should I install Mcafee? If the latter can I turn off windows defender or do I have to remove program?
I would say use Windows Defender if all you need is a basic antivirus and firewall program. If you need the more advanced features that come with McAfee, such as QuickClean, Shredder or Parental Controls, definitely install that.
Hi schtarker ,
This is going to depend user to user and how comfortable one feels. Windows Defender (built in to Windows 10) is very basic real-time protection for your computer. For those who want extra protection, we're very happy to be offering McAfee Internet Security at no extra cost with our internet services.
If you choose to install any 3rd party antivirus software, including McAfee from Shaw, it will automatically disable the Windows Defender service for you during the install process. No need for you to make the change.
I think Windows defender is adequate .... but I am a tech with the knowledge to know what to avoid on the internet and what most of the scams out there look like. Anti Virus software will never protect you from everything, you can still install malware or a virus by clicking on the wrong link or installing a program you think it safe. Unfortunately a lot of internet security is user controlled.
