I hate this Download Cap on the Shaw Internet, I know hwy they do it, but I can't afford the top of the line Internet service.
Shaw does not charge for overages so it really doesn't matter
no but they can cut me off for a period of time, to teach me a hard lesson.
True. Personally I have only went over twice so it hasn't been a issue for me.
Good Morning lwhitehead
If you are you having issues staying within the data limits of your current plan there are ways to ensure you are staying within them.Streaming services are generally the main cause of high usage and adjusting quality settings on Netflix/Youtube are a good place to begin looking.
Adjusting Netflix from Auto/High to Medium will changing hourly usage from 4-7GB/hr to 0.4-0.7GB/hrAdjusting Youtube from 1080p to 720p will reduce hourly usage from 7GB/hr to 4GB/hr or for further reduction 480p will use 0.7GB/hr.
These are some basic tips and will vary from household to household but if you do need to speak with our Bandwidth Team they are more than willing to assist in data reduction to avoid any possible interruption in service.
But I download alot on Bit torrent and listen to alot of old radio shows on youtube
Do you seed files when you have downloaded them? The upload can kill your data as well if you leave the torrent client open and running.
Which internet plan are you on? Unlimited may or may not be a big increase in price..
The cheapest plan, you see I'm on a limited funding due to the fact I've got Aspbegers.
also Downloading for MMO RPG's also take a huge bite out of my download,
I know some of those MMORPG's can be huge! As dwilson92 suggested, kill your torrent program as soon as the download is done or the upload will continue. Also make sure that when you restart your computer that the torrent program isn't set to automatically start.
If everybody quit uploading torrents as soon as the download is done the bit torrent system will fail. What about the other people that are trying to download the file? You should upload at least 100% of what you downloaded.
Well that's disable in the start up config is it?,
Disabling in startup config is one way. But to see if it is running at startup, you could go to the Task Manager (hold down CTRL + SHIFT + ESC). If it's running, it'll be in either applications or processes.
ok I'll try,
you could always switch to a Third Party Internet Access providers like Teksavvy.. for the most part they are more affordable for speedpackages of 30mbps or less and have unlimited options for a small fee.. the only down side is u would need to buy your own modem (can order one through them) and pay a connection fee..
I wish they would at least up thier data cap by 2x im on the highest plan I can afford for 300gb a month for like 10gb per day while new games easily reach 70gb on steam almost 1/3rd of the monthly....
