Could someone please tell me if Shaw PVR XG1 has a previous channel button? That means if I can switch back and forth between two channels (say 201 and 221) without going through the Guide. Try as I may cannot find one.
For the standard Gateway Remote (as seen below), just above the number pad you should see a button "Last". This will bring you back to the previous channel.
Thanks for your prompt reply. Never use the Shaw remote, just the Harmony Ultimate, and they don't have LAST in their list. Just programmed it from the Shaw remote.
It's been a while for me, but I believe I had to do the same with my Harmony One remote. Had to use the learn function to teach the Harmony about the Last button. Glad you've found the work around.
I still use a broken Harmony One... Been my favourite remote for a while... haha
I spent a lot of time tweaking the programming.. All the functions were available to be selected from when setting up the button-function. Just not by Logitech's default.. Others functions had some funny names (Chapter Forward Skip actually means Fast-Forward for example or something like that). Didn't have to use the Learn function though..
But yes, all the functions are there..
I set my Harmony remotes up for the Shaw Gateway XG1 by searching for manufacturer "Shaw Cable" and device "XG1", and it came up with a matching device that seemed to work fine. It already had a Previous Channel code which was automatically assigned to the Previous Channel button, and it performs the correct function.
What was missing was the Next and Previous buttons. Next is needed to see past the first page of program information (dumb design!), so I had to train it for Next using the remote provided by Shaw.
Telus Optik TV attempts to go one better by displaying a pop-up row of recently-viewed channels, each with a live thumbnail picture. But it takes up to 5 seconds to appear, making you wonder if the button was recognized or not, and it still takes an extra button press just to switch to the previous channel. So overall I'd rather have the simple and quick Previous Channel function like Shaw.
I believe Telus Optic allows you to switch to previous 5-channel or previous 1-channel behaviour in the settings.
