Just switched to shaw today, and they told me I can connect to the Shaw 5G, but I can only connect to the regular one. The 5G isn't showing up as a network on my latop. Please help! However, the 5G shows up on cellphones.
Hi peaches1147 ,
It is possible that your ASUS Laptop does not have a dual-band WiFi chip that is compatible with the newer 5.0 gHz networks. If you have a model number, we could try and check for you. Or we would recommend to contact ASUS for support. Thanks.
Hi Philip! Thanks for replying and the model of my Asus is X550JK
Thanks! It looks like that unit has a 802.11 ac wireless adapter, so you should be able to connect. Perhaps the 5Ghz somehow got disabled in the settings for the router?
What I'd recommend is holding down the "reset' button on the back of the router for 30s with a pin/something small until the unit resets. Once it boots back up, it will have the default settings again. Let us know if that helps to get the 5Ghz network showing up.
