Twice in the last week during the early evening (6pm), the ping time has gone from sub 100 ms to over 500 ms (wired connection).
Hey there pawdrexel,
Thanks for reaching out! There's quite a few things that can cause high pings in general, but in order to dig in to this, we'd need some further details.
Are you receiving the high pings while you're playing online games? If so, what games are you experiencing these issues on, and what servers are you playing on? For example, the US West servers for the game, US East servers etc.
Another thing to keep in mind is that if there are downloads or uploads happening at a high speed on your connection, the lack of leftover bandwidth may cause spikes in ping. I'd recommend checking out every device on your network to make sure that programs that potentially could upload/download data en masse (Torrent programs, Automatic cloud backup programs, HD video streaming) are turned off while testing to see if you can rule out what's causing it.
Easiest way to do this is to completely isolate devices one at a time to see if the ping spikes start while you have a certain device connected to the network. More information on this can be found at How to troubleshoot slow Internet speeds.
Let us know if you find anything that may be influencing your connection in this way, we'll take a closer look.
