How do I get my gateway tv channels to play in surround sound

Hi there,

I am wondering if someone can help me.  We have the Shaw Gateway System (old version, from when it was released).  I am currently using an HDMI cable to connect this Gateway to a Harmon Kardon receiver, which then outputs sound (using speaker wire) to my surround sound speakers.

Movies (from my blu ray player, which is also connected via another HDMI cable to the back of the receiver) play great in this setup.  However, my tv channels do not.  They only come out of the front two speakers.

I am a little tech unsavy.  But I am reading posts on google and this seems to be abnormal.  The TV channels should also play in surround sound.  The only thing I can think of (because the connections are similar to the blu ray player's connection to the receiver) is that there is a setting on the Arris Gateway box that is not set properly.  Can someone PLEASE help me to get this working properly so that the tv channels are also in surround sound?

Please and thank you.
