I would like to be able to enable band steering on the CGNM-2250 I received when I upgraded my internet package, similar to the setup I had previously but am unable to find any option in the router settings.
Unfortunately the band steering feature is not available on the Hitron. I'm not aware of any plans to have that feature added any time soon.
Get an access point and you will have bandsteering, ATF (Air Time Fariness), and DFS (Dynamic Frequency Selection) so you will have what consumer level WiFi equipment do not have.
Does Shaw offer a modem compatible with Wide Open 150 that does support band steering? Band steering is not particularly new technology with most newer smart phones/tablets and modern computer OS/hardware supporting this feature. It is frustrating that the Hitron device is the one most often distributed with the Wide Open 150 and this feature is not available.
Hi kilburntj. Not quite but the Netgear R6400 supports beam steering!
So, using the NetGear unit, the Hitron would need to be set for IP pass-through and the NetGear device would consequently be performing all the router functions. If this is the case, I can do this with my existing router. I was hoping to not require extra devices to accomplish this. Oh well, thanks for the info.
