IP Passthrough firewall question

My Hitron modem is in IP passthrough mode assigned to one LAN port.     Reason why is:  modem is in the basement by the service panel.   House is hardwired with cat6 to multiple locations throughout.     The LAN port assigned to the IP passthrough is connected via cat6 to an office upstairs where I have an Apple airport extreme router plugged in.    Which means I have 2 separate networks each having their own Shaw ISP IP address.

My question is:   is there any firewall protection on this other network that is on the IP passthrough?   Which is to say the network the Apple airport router is on?    OR is only the Hitron modem network being fire-walled?

 thanks for any insight.
