I have been trying to set-up port forwarding on my DPC3848V modem/router, with no success. I am trying to forward to a server with a static IP address, but every time I try to save the new setting it errors with the Internal IP address must be in a certain range (basically the DHCP range on this network). I am stumped and support cannot help me other than suggest I consider bridging to a third party router.
Bridging looks like a possible option, but I know very little about it. I have a number of questions and would appreciate input:
1) I have a DLink AC1600 (DIR-862L) Wireless modem connected to the network, basically acting as an access point and switch - would this be a suitable router to bridge with?
2) Would I lose any functionality of the DPC3848V (such as wired connections to another switch and a PC, or wireless functionality)?
3) Are there any network setting changes (gateway?) I would need to make?
4) Are there any network/Internet speed hits?
