paying for 25 MBPS and this is what I am getting. was thinking about upgrading to 150, not if i have to fork over the amount asked for it, to get maybe 1% of what I am paying for
Yeah, that would be a slow speed for Internet 25. Let's go through a few troubleshooting questions first.
That is a speed to your phone over wifi. Are you consistently getting that speed or are speeds up and down? Is it the same speed also on other phones or wifi devices in your home?
How are your speeds on a desktop that's directly connected to the modem?
And if you try testing the modem's wifi channel on 1, 6 and 11, do you find that one is consistently better? Guide to changing wifi channel can be found at How to Change the Wireless Channel on Your Shaw Wireless Modem.
can't do that since a) I have linksys, which is not on the list, and B only use wifi, the issue is on your end i am sure, at best I have reached 1.7mb/s and that is the very best I am getting the past week, what I get normally for 70$ is 7mbps, even though its supposed to be 20, not impressed. watching a video on youtube, at 144p lags big time, my monthly rate should be 1$, i can;t believe I am wasting 70$ to get crappy internet, and its crappy at best, now its worse then crappy
I would recommend looking at the Dlink's documentation to see how to log in and change the wifi channel. Testing it on channels 1, 6 and 11 to see which one has the least amount of wifi interference might find that one of them will increase your speeds.
Also make sure that your Dlink isn't near anything that could cause wifi interference. I had my own wifi modem too close to my cordless phone and my wife's laptop kept losing connection. I moved the router to the top of the desk rather than on a shelf, and moved it away from the cordless phone, and it not only connected at a faster speed but hasn't dropped connection since.
