How do I set up the Blue Sky Guide to show only the channels to which I subscribe?
Hit guide then guide again and use the free to me setting. You can also change it in your preferences to make that the default setting for your guide.
This is part of the new update that began rolling out Aug 1
BlueSky TV will show all channels that are available for subscription at this time; however, you can choose to configure a favorites list of your current channels. For more information, check out How to add a channel to favourites in the BlueSky TV Guide and let us know if you need a hand.
Thanks Sean. Althought this is still a workaround, this is such a better solution than Gateway's (which is basically 'NO'), I'm OK with that. But I would still like Shaw raise a feature request to Blue Sky Filter List for a one-button automatic filter. Much cruder tuners built in to the TV have offered this for many years. It simply scans all channels looking for a valid TV signal. It can take a while but you only have to do it once. Blue Sky already knows the valid channel list when I get it.
You can edit the visible channel list for the Gateway and the portals individually, and you can even (in theory) edit the visible channel list in the Gateway iOS/Android app and download it to the Gateway and portals. I say "in theory" because it doesn't actually work with my Gateway, although it works with my extra portal.
I'm disappointed to hear that Shaw still hasn't addressed this common request to show only subscribed channels with BlueSky, when Telus Optik TV has offered it for years.
I was hoping to try BlueSky and find that it was a significant improvement in functionality and convenience over the outdated Gateway system, but it sounds like there are still a lot of shortcomings.
I was also disappointed to hear that Shaw will not allow me to substitute BlueSky for Gateway in my current contract - they want me to sign a new contract at a higher price to try BlueSky, which I'm not willing to do. I'd rather cancel and go back to a known better service than gamble on BlueSky.
Definitely valid feedback and more than happy to forward this much-requested feature to our development (I myself am also affected too with my BlueSky TV equipment ). I remember those days of auto-tune, and how it handy it was to set up tv channels, hope it makes an appearance!
Thanks kindly, Ken
dpike Thank you for asking this question. It is the most annoying thing about BlueSky. shaw-ken please bring this forward as an immediately needed feature request over and over until its implemented. It should be something that is easy to do. The cynic in me wants to think they have this feature turned off and want us to be so annoyed by the constant "you haven't subscribed" messages that we give up and purchase all the bloody bundles.
Hey @slickrick2369. Thanks for that. I actually noticed it myself and felt my prayers were answered. Now I know when it was done. If you're advising others (not everyone will notice it like I did) remember to remind that Options - Preferences - General - Default Guide View = "Free To Me" will make Blue Sky remember it. Otherwise one has to set it manually every time one uses the Guide.
In my opinion, "Free to Me" should be part of the standard setup on installation. Who wants to wade through all the channels they can't see?
geopro1 : BlueSky now works properly. That was a pretty quick response from Shaw.
Thanks slickrick. The "Free to Me" option has definitely helped. But still would like to be able to old school channel surf with the channel up or down button on occasion and be able to only hit only the channels I have subscribed to, rather than have to click through all the channels that I don't have.
