Why do I need to power cycle my modem every couple of days? My wifi stays fully functioning but any direct connected devices cannot connect to the internet until I cycle the power again.
Hi dutchie261 ,
This should not be a regular requirement to restart the modem. We would recommend to first try a factory restore of the modem settings to see if it can resolve the challenge. If this doesn't work, we will want to look at the option of swapping the modem with a replacement unit. Please see WiFi Connectivity Troubleshooting for how to "Restore the WiFi Modem". Let us know if it has helped. Thanks.
This was happening to me too when I used the Hitron as my router. However I use my own router now so I don't have that issue anymore.
I've had a Hitron modem since upgrading my service to Internet 150 back in Jan/Feb 2017. My Hitron is running in bridged mode as I have my own wireless router behind the Shaw modem. I find that the Hitron modem drops internet service almost every other day (even though the indicator lights on the modem appear normal) .... which I'm beginning to tire of. The fix thus far for me is to simply power down and power up the modem. I'll be contacting Shaw support regarding my issue as it seems as though this is a problem many other Shaw customers are experiencing.
That shouldn't be occurring, especially not that often. It may be related to a signal issue. Try unscrewing the cable off the modem and off the cable outlet, then screw the ends back on. If there is a splitter, see if you can bypass it so it is a direct connection and see if this continues to happen. Just a note, if there is a split, make sure to check what else is connecting to it before bypassing. You don't want to disconnect Shaw Phone if you have it for instance.
I did have a splitter between the wall and the modem. Nothing was on the splitter other than the modem. I removed the splitter completely, have a single cable from the wall to the modem, and so far have been "up" without needing any Hiltron resets. Hoping this is the solution ... :-)
bunchofjunk glad to hear it is back up and running. Definitely monitor it and let me know if anything changes.
