Signal on my Gateway TV freezes up

I upgraded to Gateway TV a few weeks ago.  Since then I've had at least a dozen instances where the TV signal freezes up - you can't change channel, volume doesn't work, can't get any on-screen menus, etc.  So I have to unplug the PVR, wait ten seconds, and then plug the device back in.  System reboots and resets and then it works fine.  Any idea why this is happening so frequently or is this a device fault?
