I plug in my 2gig hard drive and the Arris Gateway reports 41% with or without the drive connected.
After rebooting all portals and main unit it changed to 42% without and 31% with the drive plugged in. What gives?
With using an external expander, it may not show the correct percentage used. What you can do is try formatting the expander after you connect it to the Gateway. Note however, this would delete any recordings currently on the expander.
When I plugged it in originally it went trough the Gateway formatting. It was a brand new drive with nothing on it. It never reported correctly. Also, without the drive the Arris does not report correctly either but I read that it may be the “set” scheduled programs.
No matter what, quite a few programs disappear from the list of recordings when I disconnect the external drive so it is present and actively recording.
I don't believe the Gateway takes into account future recordings as part of the percentage used. It might actually not include the space of the external expander as part of the total space either for the percentage shown.
That may be true but even so, now when I plug it reports higher. Problem is that I now am not sure which is correct. Will my per stop recording if my 500gig are full and it says 100%?
If it does reach 100% full, it won't record anything further. As you mentioned, when disconnecting the expander, some recordings no longer show up, so at least it is utilizing the expander as it should be.
Further testing shows that without expander the drive is 38% full and with expander 42% full.
38% of 500 is 190 gb and 4% of 2gig is 80 gb.
Total is 42%
Dumb system but maybe this is how it works.
I meant 4% of 2 Tb
