Starting recently, when deleting an e-mail message the following message is automatically un-highlighted, indicating it has been 'read' when it really hasn't. How can I fix this?
Speaking with our team this is the expected behavior for the current version of Shaw webmail. I was able to test and repeat this. I understand how it happens. Once I delete the email the one below takes its place and is automatically read.
Good news is that there is a preference to stop this!
1. Sign into webmail
2. Click on Preferences at the top
3. Click on Mail and you'll see a list of options
4. Click on Do not mark messages in the reading pane as read
It is defaulted to Mark messages in reading pane as read immediately.
5. Click Save at the top left, next to Cancel
Now when you delete the email and the bottom one takes its place it will not immediately read. Let me know if it worked or not!
My first thought would be that you have ActiveSync/Exchange set up somewhere. So if are logging into https://webmail.shaw.ca to check your emails, but you also have your email set up on a computer or phone, checking it on your computer/phone would tell Webmail that the email has already been looked at. Or if you have it set up on a computer and a phone and check it on one device, the other device would count it as read.
How are you checking your emails?
While I check my e-mail on 2 different computers (desktop, laptop), it is not a matter of a message already 'read' by the other device since I know the message has not previously been 'read' (i.e. wake up in the morning with many new messages and this happens every time I read a new message to the following new message). This just started happening a few months ago.......nothing like this before. Any other suggestions?
Thanks for the clarification molsonstock.
Sorry for any misunderstanding on our part. I see this is happening for me too. Even without opening the message (still marked as unread), if I move something to trash, when viewed in trash it as marked as read. Moving to any custom made folder (such as for organization, etc) it does not mark as read, only when moved to trash. We're going to have to reach up to our server team to see if they're aware of any changes to the webmail client recently. Sorry for any inconvenience.
