I see the Global 24 news channel is set to launch on March 14 on Shaw channel 21, any word on an HD equivalent?
Global BC | BC1
GlobalNews BC1 will have both an SD and HD feed.
The expected launch date will be March 14, 2013. The SD feed will be channel 21 or 111 in most of BC, but some areas will get it on either 2 or 88.
The HD feed will be on channel 216. An HD box capable of MPEG-4 will be required to get this channel. An explanation of MPEG-4 format and a list of MPEG-4 boxes can be found at Guide to MPEG4 Channels and Digital Cable Boxes.
Keep in mind that this information is subject to change.
Good news that there is going to be an HD version, thanks Lance.
WIll this channel be offered outside of BC?
It will only be offered in BC. Maybe one day we'll have versions in each province to reflect local news but we don't have any information on that yet.
BC1 starts tomorrow - the first Canadian all-new station on Shaw. For that I am happy.
I hope that BC1 (HD version) will actually carry all content in HD. While Global News broadcasts in HD, the stories it carries (e.g., new pope) too ofter still rebroadcast as SD (unlike CTV). I realize this is a TV station issue (not a Shaw Cable transmission problem), but Shaw does own Global.
Hopefully we'll get to see CBC News Network in HD too (and CTV News HD) for some balance. Too many BCChristyLiberal Jobs Plan ads on Global, leading to wonder if the taxpayer is funding Global News. While that is my personal opinion, I do wish for BC1 to be a technically sharp and journalistically solid new station.
GlobalBC news tonight has a segment on BC1 starting tomorrow (Thursday) however per above HD 216 does not appear on my Gateway channel list. Will it be made available soon, like before 0900 hrs Thursday?
