HAVING TROUBLE WITH TV....JUST SNOW.....CAN'T GET TV TO WORK
To get you the help you require, we will need a little bit more information.
Do you have a cable box on the TV you are having challenges with? Do you have other TV's in the home, and are they also suffering from the same challenge?
Hi. As Jackal asked, is this is just one TV or on more than one TV? Also, if you have a digital box on this TV, have you checked to see if your TV is on the correct input?
I have the digital box on my main TV and none on my small one. The small one works fine, the main one is nothing but snow..!! I am totally confused by "input", etc....you will have to be very exact when you ask something...sorry....the over 65 generation.....Marilyn
Is your main TV high-definition?
An "input" is a place on the back of your TV where you can connect the cable from the digital box, DVD player, VCR, stereo system or game system (such as Playstation or Xbox).
First make sure your digital box is on.
If you have an HD TV, look on your TV remote for a button labelled as either input or source. Once you push it, it should display a list of all of the available inputs on your TV. Every time you then push the input or source button, it will go down this list until it finds the one your digital box is on.
If you have a non-HD TV, look for a some buttons that might be labelled as VCR, DVD or TV1. Push each of those buttons until something changes on the TV.
Have a nonHD-TV and tried those buttons....still snow..!!! Somebody tried to help and said to turn everything off and unplug, so I did and also removed the Shaw cable from the wall...then I screwed it back in and plugged TV in and still snow...!!!
Try changing your TV to channel 3 or 4, using the channel Up/Down buttons on the front/side of the TV.
Nothing on 2, 3 or 4 ... just snow..!!!
I will send you a PM to get more information and perhaps give you a call on this problem.
I wanted to elaborate on the troubleshooting made earlier in this thread.
When the folks above suggested that you change the channel on the TV to either 3, or 4, they meant on the TV itself, not the new cable box. This would only work though if the cable connecting your TV to the new cable box (not the power) is the same type of cable as what connects the cable box to the wall. It would have the same type of screw on connectors.
If the cable box connects to your TV using a different type of cable, then the solution will be in finding the correct source/ input. The other type of cable connecting the cable box to the TV you are likely to have will look like three cables bonded together, and they will not have screw on connectors. The connectors here will be yellow, red, white. The label of where these cables plug into the back of your TV (examples: source/input 1,2,3,4 It is different in many TV's) Is what you will need to change your TV to. As mentioned before the source/ Input button on the TV remote (not the cable box remote) will be needed. Press that until the TV puts up the label that matches the name of the source/input that the cable is connected to on the back of the TV.
I know these steps were covered, but I wanted to add a bit more detail to the communication.
I hope this helps.
A fellow from Shaw called me last night, and we finally got it all sorted out.....thanks for your input anyway....Marilyn
