Recent wireless internet connection installation, placed in basement, but I can not get connectivity on some parts of my 2nd floor.
I would usually recomend trying to have it on the main floor toward the centre of the home as all wireless has a limited range, the farther away it is the lower the signal strength will be.
dustin. is definitely right in terms of placing the modem as centrally as possible. Just to be sure though, you might also want to try changing the channel on which the modem is broadcasting, as interference could be a factor as well. We've got a guide on this for you here: How to Change the Wireless Channel on Your Shaw Wireless Modem

Yes its ideal to keep it in a centrally located area but for those who can't because of cabling etc. james one option is to get an extender for you network if you dont want to move your router. I have one at my inlaws and its works great.
