Has anyone had any experience with setting up Thunderbird on Ubuntu? When I use the same settings as in my Windows Mail (Vista) it keeps telling me that my password is wrong, even though I've thoroughly checked it and it's correct.
I've used Thunderbird for some time now with various versions of Ubuntu. I've just used the username itself, before the @shaw.ca and things have worked well.
For sending mail:
This setup works well for me, including receiving the ever-wonderful spam.
What are you using for the incoming and outgoing server names? Since you've probably got your username and password saved in Windows Mail, just to be sure, have you tried signing into Webmail with your password?
Oh, yes. I've done all that. The very same password I'm using successfully in Windows Mail when I'm on my Windows partition works just fine. I'm wondering whether I should be setting things up like I'm on an Apple (since Apple and Ubuntu are both based on Unix).
Hmm, hard to say in that case what's happening. I'm familiar with Ubuntu, but I haven't used Thunderbird with it. I'm not sure what would prevent it from working like any other mail client though. pop.shaw.ca for incoming on 110 with no encryption/clear text for password and mail.shaw.ca on port 25 with no authentication or encryption (provided you're at home on your Shaw connection) should work for any client.
Edit: good suggestion The specified item was not found.. Try your full email address as your username and see what happens.
I finally got it working! Thanks for all you help. I used shawmail.vc.shawcable.net port 110 but once I'd set the account up, I found I had to close out the application and then try it again. Works fine now...I hope. Sometimes these things screw up when you shut down the system and reboot.
Nice, thanks for the update on that!
