Cant get any Wireless connection in my apartment but Ethernet cables work fine. I cant get wireless on anything, an xbox, ipad, iphone, computer.
I have a Cisco router from Shaw the DPC3825.
Do you see the wireless connection on your devices?
no i dont see my wifi name when i try to setup wifi on the devices.
Try resetting the Cisco, hold the reset pin for 30-45 seconds until the lights go out (or flash) on the front
ive done that like 3 times
Wireless portion 'dead' on the modem then maybe?
maybe, i mean it is one of the worst modems i have ever had, there is always something faulty with it.
I was thinking the wireless could be disabled in the web interface, but resetting it, would have corrected that.
Are you able to open http://192.168.0.1 ? And have it ask for a username and password? cusadmin and whatever password is on the sticker?
yes i can
I had similar issues. Tec support had me also disconnect the cable as well as the power cord for at least a minute. Not certain if they did any more at their end, but it works great now. They also had me reduce the number of channels and that seemed to help with drops.
I have the same issue. Since this new cisco router I have to reset the modem about 5 times a day. I will spontaneously lose signal for no reason. I am not happy with this wireless.
Try disconnecting the cable as well as the power cord when you reset it.
none of my devices are hooked up with a cable because the location of the modem is too far from my devices which is why I use wireless in the first place
I mean the Shaw coaxial cable coming into the modem. Even with the power cord disconnected there is still some power coming in on the coaxial cable and it prevents a full reset. If that works to get WiFi then some other settings may help with the drops.
ahhh okay sorry I misunderstood...I will try that next time it drops. Thanks
Hey metisqueen, if you're still having any trouble after resetting the modem, try changing the channel. If you're getting local interference from other routers, 2.4GHz cordless phones, microwaves, etc... then this can help. The steps are here:
Wireless Connectivity Troubleshooting
didnt work bob
Sorry to hear that. My symptoms were very similar.... no wifi...only cable....and then.....nothing. Called 310-shaw and they got me up and running. Disconnected coaxial and power for over a minute. Had me reboot computer...(not sure what that did..) Went into http://192.168.0.1 and logged in as per password on sticker. I remember reducing the channels. I think that I selected on the top menu, then basic settings on the side menu, then changed the standard channel from auto to 1.
I know that I changed something on the channels... it seems my memory may not be as sharp as I thought it was. For me, the biggest thing that seemed to work was to disconnect everything from the back of the dpc 3825 for several minutes. Just disconnecting the power did not work as I had tried that many many many times.
still need help
This thread leads you to the instructions for resetting your channels. wireless Internet access keeps dropping
Have you gone into the web interface for the modem?
Under Wireless (on top), Basic settings (on side), the window that opens, does it show that your wireless network is enabled? Does it show your wireless network name at the bottom, and on the bottom right, does it have the broadcast SSID box ticked?
changing channels and unplugging the cables and power did not work
Sorry eggnog. I all still curious what the status is on the router web interface page. In all honesty... it sounds like you are going to have faster success by contacting 310-shaw and talking to tech support. Perhaps I was lucky... but from the time I picked up the phone to the time I was up and running again was less than 30 minutes. I think that I waited at most about 3 minutes before I had a tech on the line. Perhaps there is a setting in the web setup page that will get your wifi part working again. It is possible that it can be trying to work, but just not broadcasting its presence. Good luck
Were you able to find a solution to this? If not, just let me know.
