weFewer need extended wireless coverage, how do we install a dlink router when we already have the shaw wireless router?
You can get the wireless modem changed into a bridge modem (regular modem basically) and put in your router. Depending on your routers signal strength that won't fix the issue (or it might, my router has better signal than the shaw one).
Or you can setup the 2nd router as an extender of the shaw one. i BELIEVE this is possible but i have not tested it personally.
Both of esham's solutions will work, I have done both
Do you have an Ethernet (network) cable into or near the location that has poor wireless coverage now?
We just have the shaw cable box and an ethernet cable by the computer.
Start by having your shaw modem bridged then, and connecting your D-Link router up as it is designed to, see if that gives you more wireless coverage to start.
Thanks ill try that
If it doesn't help enough, at that point you should look into getting a wireless repeater/extender, or running a network cable to your 'dead' zone and we can use some tricks to setup the D-Link there to extend the wireless signal.
