Do I have to be inside the Go WiFi premises in order to connect or as long as I'm near (how near) the location?
Since Shaw Go Wi-Fi is using unlicensed spectrum at 2.4GHz, the answer is "it depends".
That's, unfortunately as specific as we can get, each site will have it's own unique challenges for coverage.
Even in the best circumstances, you will not get much further than a couple of hundred feet. More likely, you'll only see 50 feet or less.
I like to add that many commercial locations are going to either a metal exterior or a stucco one. Both of these building materials will have a negative effect on the outside throughput from the WiFi within.
Thanks cdearborn and jackal for the response.
The ones I've visited, I usually have coverage in their Parking lot, but not has high as inside the building.
I was just wondering why would someone need WiFi in places like House of Knives, or Swimco....
House of Knives, are usually in malls? So it would give coverage to a good portion of the mall.
It is also about Shaw trying to cover most of the city in them...
