When I turned on the TV this morning there was an error message "An error occurred. Please ensure you media server is functioning properly and network connection is active".
How do we fix this?
Reboot would be the first thing to try

This seems to me that you are reciving this message on a Shaw Gateway Portal, am I correct?
Are you still getting this error on your portal? Pulling the power cord as Kevin suggested is the best first step. After that, reconnect the coaxial cable from both the portal and the wall outlet and then reconnecting it. Let us know if you are still getting the message after that.
