I Shaw finally upgrading in nelson bc, as everyone iis mentioning that there shaw internet is super slow.
Hello steel glory,
Yes, we are constantly performing upgrades in all of our areas, including Nelson. Are you having challenges with your internet today?
Yes, very badly. a lot of people are complaining, when is the upgrade gonna be done
I have the same question. My speed test from the Shaw site yields the following results:
Upload Speed: 0.34Mbps
Test run at 7:20 pm on a Saturday. Even trying other times of the day as in after midnight or afternoon produces similar results. I am paying for 25Mbps and rarely seeing anywhere near 1Mbps.
I was informed by phone today that upgrades are being completed in the Nelson area. Is there a scheduled completion date??
Thanks for your response.
Same problem here in the Crescent Valley area. The entire southern part of the West Kootenay is affected as far as I know -- Trail, Castlegar, Nelson and the little places between. I complained plenty and the word is that a fiber optic link in the Balfour area requires completion. Once that is done, we're sailing. I thought the amount of work remaining was small but who knows...we were told it was to be done by mid-Feb, but here it is a month+ later and things haven't changed. Sure would be good if Shaw would level with their clients on this...
Would someone from Shaw be able to provide us with an update?? Thanks in advance..
I had shaw in and the tech said that some of my numbers were in the negatives and they should have seen that when I initially called in. He changed a couple of cables and said it might improve a tiny bit. He said the upgrade to fiber will be done by April 1st. and that I should then have in the 20mbps.
Still currently anywhere between .10 and 3.74 mbps with a ping rate of between 50 and up. The other day it had a ping rate of over 3000 and .10 mbps. We shut down the internet at that point because it was basically non existent.
If I don't reach up to 20 mbps on my 25 mbps plan that I am paying for on Monday as promised, Shaw will be getting a call again. May I suggest all the unhappy customers from Nelson jam their lines April 1st if they don't keep their promise this time and insist on a realistic time line.
Sure hoping it's April 1st when they finish, I was told by a Shaw employee at the Selkirk College job fair in Castlegar it was going to be done for mid March. This was last month when she said that...
April 3...still miserable. Can anyone Shaw enlighten us??
1.6Mbps download speed today, still a far cry from 25Mbps... Is the April 1st completion date being pushed further back or where does the project stand? Any input from Shaw updating it's Nelson area customers would be greatly appreciated.
Not holding my breath at this point. I was given a date for early March when the upgrades would be complete, next I was told mid-March, then I heard April 5th, all of which have come and gone.
I have also been posting under Shaw needs to get their act together. I made a comment that (shaw)matt seemed to have disappeared when the April 5th date he gave passed by. He emailed me back and said he didn't remember giving a date and what area am I in. Excuse me. The call centre, the tech all said March 31st the fiber lines would be on. Matt responded to a comment I made on forum about jamming up the call centre lines when that date was missed and said that it wouldn't help, adding that due to the long weekend it would be April 5th when the fiber lines should be up. What date are they giving now? Anyone heard anything?
Matt gave me a mid-Apil estimate a few weeks back, but from the quality of internal communication in this company, I wouldn't hold my breath. It seems like you won't get current, accurate information unless you call the local office which works with the planning team... The only progress update I've been given consisted of "almost done". It's been "almost done" for a couple months now. I don't even know how far the fibre is at this point in time, it could be as far ahead as Nelson, or as far back as Trail. I honestly haven't been given a geographical update.
Another reason this could be taking a while is the extensive testing they have to do before implementing the new network.
Still, it has been taking far too long for the dates they've been giving us. I was told in person by a Shaw employee that the work would be completed for the 15th. Would you look at the date, it's practically mid April...
Oh man. The never ending story. I've been told by Shaw employees for two years now that the upgrade is going to happen or happening, but I never see a difference in speed. The internet is so slow that I can't even get speedtest to work right now! I think they should permanently offer everyone the promotional price here because who would pay full price for "F" grade internet? Once our promotion is up, we're switching to telus. boo!
Dead slow today here again in Castlegar also. Same story as you stanley with the speed test.
Then I come to the Shaw site and see they plan to take another $5 / month for ever-decreasing service. Easy decision to switch to Telus, their service couldn't be any worse than this.
Maybe tomorrow I'll get to talk to someone at Shaw. They ignored my call-back request, and later when I called said the hold time was 9 to 15 minutes, and no option to request a call-back I cooked and ate dinner waiting on hold, apparently my call is very important to them. After 30-45 minutes, I gave up, which I assume was their plan all along.
Hi 1500stanley and glenn1963,
We are aware that the Nelson/Castlegar area is experiencing slower than normal speeds tonight and apologize for that. This is related to an issue which is also affecting TV channels for some cities in the East Kootenay region at this time. We have technicians currently working to address this, and I'll be following up in this thread tomorrow with more information.
Good afternoon 1500stanley and glenn1963,
The issue which was causing a reduction in internet speeds in the Nelson/Castlegar area yesterday has now been resolved. If you're still experiencing problems, please let me know.
Just did a speedtest. By "resolved", I see you mean that we can now load simple webpages. It's still dead slow for anything else. Last night we were offline for 6 hours! Finally got through on the phone and the rep said that the upgrades have not begun here in Nelson, and that the date is "TBD".
I haven't seen a speedtest result higher than 5mbps since signing up for shaw. This is an obvious choice for me: Telus offers a minimum of 5mbps, up to 25mbps for the exact same price. Sorry Shaw, I'm out! Time to get your shite together!
Thanks for letting me know. I'll be sending you a direct message to look into this further, please check your Community Inbox.
