Suddenly have no audio tonight. We use a Shaw PVR/digital box. Checked all connections; OK. The audio works fine if we put a DVD in the DVD player, so it's not a problem with the TV itself. Any suggestions?
Which model of PVR? Did power cycling the PVR help?
No, powering off and then back on the PVR gave me maybe 5 seconds of audio, and then silence again! I ended up phoning Technical support for help-- ended up having to unplug the HDMI cable from both the TV and the PVR and then reconnecting it again, when I turned the TV/VCR back on I had sound! Hurrah! Don't understand what happened but am wondering if my PVR is about to give up the ghost-it's nearly 2 years old and my son now tells me that the exact same problem of no audio has happened to him a few times lately-he's just given up and decided not to watch TV that day. It's a Motorola PVR that I purchased from Shaw-thinking now that I should have opted for rental instead.
Which remote do you have? My next suggestion would be trying to program in the Cable terminal mute, in addition to the audio system (either TV or sound system), but this depends on which remote you have. Mine does that every so often when it turns itself on to record something, it mutes like it should, but doesn't unmute when pressing a button.
Don't understand what you mean by programming in the cable terminal mute? Our remote is the Shaw universal one. Coincidentally, the PVR WAS recording when I tried to watch TV last night and had no audio, so perhaps we have a similar problem. My son thinks our problem is with the remote and not the PVR.
The cable terminal has a Mute function too, why when it turns on to start a recording, it turns on muted. It is supposed to unmute when you press a button.
If it doesn't unmute like it should, you can add a mute button to your remote for this, depending on which model of remote you have.
I don't know Shaw had different types of remotes. Ours is the same as every Shaw remote I've seen, the power button on the top right and the Setup button on the top left. Five Menu buttons in an arc below those. Can't see a brand name.
Aah, I found a picture of it in the Shaw files, it is an Atlas standard Shaw remote.
Press the "Cable" button
Press and Hold the Setup button until the Cable button blinks twice
Press and Release Setup
Press the * key located under the "7" key
Now when ever the DCT is muted press the CBL button and then the * button to un-mute the DCT
This will only work on the non-light-up Atlas remote.
thanks for the instructions. Will try that out later on. Excuse my ignorance, but what is the "DCT"?

Hi i am facing problem from last night with losing audio. I can't fix this. Could you please help me out?
Everything is ok but problem in Shaw TV. I called several times to get help but no response. Strange, what should i do?
I had no problem at all getting through to Shaw technical support by phone and they were very helpful; mind you, I was phoning them very late at night when most other callers would likely be asleep. When I told the tech person that powering the DVD off and then back on again had only given me audio for a few seconds before it ceased again, he suggested that I turn off the TV and PVR , unplug the HDMI cable completely, at both ends - from the TV and from the PVR itself, then connect it all back on, turn on the PVR and TV. After that, I had audio again. I have no idea of what the problem was, but it solved my issue that night.
