I am connected directly to the modem and the internet keeps cutting in and out
When your internet cuts out, do the lights change on your modem?
All the lights are on
How often does it cut in an out?
it seems to cut out every five min. or so it has been going on all through the weekend
Can you try running a continue ping to somewhere that isn't known for going down, see if if shows the same outage periods
start-All Programs-Accessories-Command Prompt
ping 18.104.22.168 -t
Start it when your internet is working, just leave it open, when your internet goes down, see if it changes to Request timed out
I expect it to, but if it is just a browser issue similiar to what nelsongrc mentioned, this will continue as normal.
I have had this issue several times and have called support with little success - but have found from other sources and actual experience for Internet explorer - Reset settings and clearing all temp/cookies/ etc. seemed to do the trick..... Had this issue this evening and it worked like a charm (after calling shaw to see if it was me or them....)
Back to Kevin's first question, when your internet cuts out, do the lights on your modem change? You replied that all of the lights are on.
Does this mean that when you're computer can't access the internet, your modem still has 4 solid lights? If it is, the issue might be with your computer as nelsongrc suggested.
Have you tried restarting the computer, and is yes, did it restore the internet?
