The latest monthly bill I received from Shaw has a 12% HST tax added on.
The HST tax was reduced as of April 1, 2013.
This charge should not have been made.
My understanding was the bills made before April 1st will have HST, bills made after will have GST and PST, but overall it might make a difference of a dollar or two? 7% on the basic TV and basic phone charge?
Check the following things first, and if they are true, then call Shaw and demand a refund:
1) Invoice is Dated April 1st, 2013 or later
2) The Current charge period is: "Current Charges (01-Apr-13 to 30-Apr-13)"
If that is true, then they can't legally charge you HST, they will give you some line that they are following the guidelines set out by the Canadian Government, but when they realize that they are wrong they will refund you the difference.
What is the invoice date on your bill?
Hi. My invoice is dated April 5th. Shaw concierge just informed me that because the billing period is from March 13 - April 12 then HST is included. I'm a bit confused.
If you are set up with our automatic billing service, then the invoice date on your bill may not show that it was actually generated in March, even if this is the case. It's the generation date which is important. This does not apply though if you aren't on our automated billing service, so @galdran, in any situation where it turns out that for one reason or another, HST is incorrectly charged on an invoice which was generated after March 31st, then we would ensure that's corrected.
Hope this helps.
Thanks for the clarification.
I noticed my bill also has an HST amount, though small.
HST (Registration XXXXXXXXXXXX) 1.33
GST (Registration XXXXXXXXXXXX) 6.30
PST Provincial Tax 5.46
April 11, 2013
May 3, 2013
I sent a private message to Andrew asking to help me understand a charge I find confusing. (Not the first time.)
Changes Since Your Previous Invoice 11.07
I added Movie Central recently, but the $18 (- $9 for a 6 month promo) is already included in the bill break down so this $11.07 has left me scratching my head.
