Is this possible yet?
Don't hold your breath. It's only been available from telus for 3 years. We wouldn't want to be too unrealistic about our expectations.
I'm not holding my breath...
The USA has apps and software for our gateway service already but the system must be upgraded to Moxi DVR Release 2.0 and we have not done this yet. Just waiting for this to happen we hope.
And that the Gateway systems use the private with no internet access CMTS, they need to be switched over to the internet CMTS routers in order for this to happen, which as other effects with the guide and such.
I suspect they are working on it, but no idea how much of a pirority this is for them
Shaw was always way behind on opening up features and firmware updates compared to US based cable providers going way back to other boxes.
Simple answer is there's more competition in the US so companies with the same hardware need to be on the ball and proactive at the risk of falling behind.
Shaw can take their sweet old time. And we just wait patiently and keep paying in the meantime.
Yes, I have found most of Shaw's hardware is very very restricted on what it is allowed to do... DCX3400 for a multi-room PVR system for example
It isn't very often that I personally would use the commonly asked for Gateway features though (smart-phone programming, DLNA) How often are you on your lunch break and needing to setup recordings on your PVR? DLNA - I have a bluray player specicially for streaming from my server (uses network share not DLNA but can). What I would find useful, is if the Sling-box function was built into it and could watch TV remotely
I have to disagree withe the point of not using the remote recording features of a pvr thru Apps. Our family, constantly is adjusting our programming recordings to suit us and if an app gets people more involved and engaged into thier Shaw entertainment then i believe thats a plus for Shaw. We are in the communication business. Lets start communicating.
