there was a pop up on my screen for a portal update...clicked yes and now I have no tv. I unplugged the portal for 30 secs and still nothing. What is the procedure for this?

Reboot the Gateway for 30 seconds plug it back in, then unplug the Portal for 30 seconds, plug it back in.
I am curious about what kind of update it is. I am hoping it's the 7.1 update.
It wasn't, the Gateways seem to do a software update every Thursday night, Friday morning, mine is still 7.0.4

Yes I finally got it back. Took a long time but it took 3 unpluggings to do it. Is there an easier way? Do I have to click on update every time?
No, from what I've seen, it checks for an update every thursday, says it is updating, but doesn't really do anything, then reboots
Mine has crashed once since I've had it that I had to unplug it, but there was a code-update at that time
If the signal to the portal was weak, it's possible that the firmware update wasn't going through properly. Moving the portal around when you were pulling the power cord might have helped adjust the coaxial cable to improve the signal.
