How can I set up my shaw e-mail with my Asus tablet?
Hey there firstname.lastname@example.org
Have a look here please: How to setup email on an Android device
That document provides walk-throughs which should be helpful for setting up Email on any device running Android. Let me know how that goes!
Thanks, I just came back to trying again but it doesn't let me past the first part and when I try the "next" it tells me it is the wrong username or password. I changed all my passwords to make sure they were compatible but still not working
What you might have to do is to go into the Settings section on your Asus, then into the Applications manager or Apps, whatever it's called. My Kobo Arc calls it one thing and my Samsung smart phone calls it the other. Near the top of the page, you should see Downloaded, Running and All. Select All. Then scroll until you find your email app and tap it so that you see information about storage and cache. Try clearing the data and cache to see if that helps any.
I tried the method given in that document with my ASUS Transformer TF300T and it doesn't work for the outgoing setup. All I get is an error message. So I tried the same setup that I use on my desktop with Thunderbird, ie. SMTP server: mail.shaw.ca Port: 25 SSL: None Authentication: None and no Required Sign-in and it sends mail quite nicely, at least from my home. I haven't tried it on an outside WiFi connection.
That will work as long as your outside connection is using Shaw Cable, if it is a Bell internet at Tim Hortons or McDonalds, you won't be able to send email
I tried to set up my ASUS tablet using the settings in the Configuration 1 Setup PDF given at the bottom of your webpage https://community.shaw.ca/docs/DOC-1064. All goes well until I get to the end of the outgoing setup using all of the settings required and a proper password with, in my case, one capital letter, 4 lower case letters, one special character, and one number. When I press Next, the program checks the settings but returns this error message:
Username or password incorrect
(535 #5.7.0 Authentication failed)
The only step I couldn't do was step 11 on your web page for POP/SMTP servers where it says to "Enter a check mark into the box next to Login required" since this box doesn't appear on my setup screen nor does it in your illustrated PDF document.
What is the problem and why is this being so frustratingly difficult to set up a simple email program? My tablet is not of much use if it can't be used in the real world! Do I have to reset up the mail account every time I am away from my Shaw Connection? HELP!!
Is it an Asus Transformer. The following thread may be of help . Android unlike Mac are all a little different set up depending on manufacturer I find.
Have you been able to confirm Remote SMTP is enabled on your email account?
This could cause most of your issues
If it's the email address from this thread and not another SMTP is enabled I was able to check
To reply to your messages;
1. Yes, I am using an Asus Transformer TF300T running Android 4.1. I have looked at the information in your attached link but there is nothing there to solve my problem.
2. I have only one email account and that is the Shaw account that I have been using for correspondence. I don't understand the requirement of having Remote SMTP enabled on my email account but, if I read your second message correctly, you have checked this requirement and it is enabled.
I have tried repeatedly using the instructions Shaw has provided on the various webpages or pdf documents noted in my previous message but always get the same error message. I have tried other outgoing settings for security and ports but nothing works.
With the normal settings, I removed the check mark from the Require sign-in box and the email setup completed. I was able to receive all of the emails from my Shaw account but, when I try to send an email, it goes to the Outbox and is stuck there with no way to send it on so that is no value as a mail program. Do you have any other suggestions?
Right now, I would suggest trying a different mail program, I've been looking at replacement mail applications for my android phone because I've been getting fustrated at the built in one, I'm going to try K-9 on the weekend
I have tried AquaMail and K9 downloaded from the Apps Store and neither of these get me any further than the Email program that came with my tablet. They both end with the same error message for the outgoing server. The problem is not the mail program, it is the Shaw settings that seem to be required but don't work. Shaw needs to look at this problem!!!
I think there may have been a misunderstanding - it looks like kent_88 may have checked the e-mail address used as the username for the user who started this thread, email@example.com. This user's e-mail address has remote access enabled. I just checked into the e-mail address that was used to create your Community profile, and I found that remote access was not enabled. I've just enabled that - could I please ask you to try sending out from the e-mail app again?
firstname.lastname@example.org, were you able to get your e-mail account to send out? If you're still getting that password error message but you've confirmed that the same password logs into http://webmail.shaw.ca, it might be best to make sure that your password meets our remote access requirements. Please let me know if you're trying the POP set-up or the Exchange set-up.
Sorry I misread/skipped user names. Good Catch Tegan. Thanks
